NitroHUD vs KTW GPS Speedometer

Choose NitroHUD for a free, ad-free windshield HUD; choose KTW GPS Speedometer if you need a small speed display over your navigation app. Both offer a windshield HUD, but NitroHUD does not have KTW’s floating window. This Android comparison focuses on those display choices and what payment changes. NitroHUD is not affiliated with KTW Apps.

Which KTW app is being compared?

The app here is GPS Speedometer : Odometer HUD by KTW Apps on Google Play. KTW’s own website lists its Speedometer with route tracking, speed warnings, and HUD. Check the developer name when searching, since the words GPS speedometer appear in many app titles. The official sources were checked on November 5, 2026. Use the comparison table to identify a deal-breaker first: whether you need speed on the windshield, speed above another app, or a display without ads. Those requirements matter more than the number of dashboard styles.

Windshield HUD and floating window serve different needs

A windshield HUD mirrors the phone’s readout for reflection. A floating window keeps a small readout visible above another app on the phone. KTW’s Google Play description explicitly supports the latter over Google Maps and Waze. NitroHUD’s HUD occupies its own screen inside the app; it cannot place speed above a navigation screen. That is a practical limitation if one phone must show directions and a separate speed readout at the same time. A dashboard layout named Navigator in NitroHUD does not change this: it contains compass, altitude, and graph cards, not turn-by-turn directions.

What you can use in NitroHUD without subscribing

NitroHUD’s free features include GPS speed in mph or km/h, Mirror, HUD, the Solo dashboard layout, and three themes: Nitro, Digital, and Classic. There is also one user-set speed alert and a Keep screen on setting. Starting a trip lets you see live distance, duration, average speed, and top speed in the Trips tab. The free Drive layout does not put all those trip statistics beneath the gauge. This distinction matters when deciding whether the free screen already shows the information you want or whether a paid dashboard layout would be useful.

Ads and purchases: compare the terms separately

NitroHUD has no in-app ads, including in its free features; PRO is not an ad-removal purchase. It is an auto-renewing subscription with weekly, monthly, and yearly plans. Current prices and any eligible trial appear in the app and Google Play. KTW’s listing offers a free download and identifies ads and in-app purchases. It does not establish an ad-removal offer’s billing terms. Check the purchase screen for what is included, whether payment is one-time or recurring, and the current local price. Do not assume that every paid offer removes every ad placement.

What NitroHUD PRO changes about the display

PRO unlocks the remaining gauge themes, additional dashboard layouts, a custom accent color, the app’s brightness control, and additional alert settings. These can help if the free dashboard lacks a particular card or you want to adjust the display’s appearance. HUD remains a simplified screen with a large speed number, units, a heading when available, and a slim speed bar. It does not reproduce every analog dial or dashboard card from Drive. Choose a paid theme for the screen you will actually use, rather than expecting its entire gauge design to appear in the windshield reflection.

A NitroHUD readability limitation to check

When you exceed a configured speed-alert threshold, NitroHUD’s speed number can pulse and become noticeably dimmer, including in HUD. This makes the alert state worth checking before relying on that display. The app’s Demo drive setting lets you preview changing speeds while parked; its simulated readout is labeled. Check the unit label and GPS status text as well as the large number from your normal seated position. If the number becomes hard to read during an alert, do not rely on the reflection as your only speed reference. Keep using the vehicle’s instruments and set up the phone before moving.

Check the display you will actually use

For a windshield display, judge the reflected number while parked in the conditions in which you expect to use it. A clear phone screen alone does not settle whether its reflection suits your view. For a floating display, open your usual navigation app and check whether the speed window covers a turn instruction, a map control, or another essential detail. Treat this as a check on your own phone, not a promise about every device. If a feature opens a purchase prompt, read its terms before paying. Make these checks before a journey so the comparison does not become a reason to handle the phone in traffic.

Check record limits before replacing an existing app

If trip records also influence your choice, separate a live trip display from access to saved history. NitroHUD’s free tier shows the latest saved trip; PRO opens access to more saved trips and CSV or GPX export. History is capped at 200 trips, with fewer retained if storage space runs short. Do not treat it as unlimited storage, and confirm important trips appear in history after stopping. KTW advertises trip-log export, but its listing does not specify the formats. Check the available export options yourself if you need a particular file type; a general export claim does not confirm compatibility with your workflow.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to start a trip to open NitroHUD’s HUD?

No. HUD is a separate control and does not require an active trip recording. Start a trip when you also want to record the journey.

Does NitroHUD PRO add a floating speedometer?

No. PRO unlocks additional NitroHUD features, but it does not add a window that stays above other apps. Do not subscribe expecting that behavior.

Does NitroHUD know the speed limit on my road?

No. NitroHUD has no speed-limit database. You set each alert threshold yourself; an alert does not identify the posted limit or tell you what speed is legally permitted.

Can I turn off mirroring in NitroHUD?

Yes. Mirror is a separate toggle on Drive, and HUD uses that setting. Leave mirroring off when reading the phone directly; enable it when checking a windshield reflection.

Which app supports knots or meters per second?

KTW’s Google Play listing includes both units. NitroHUD’s speed-unit choices are mph and km/h, so it does not meet a requirement for either of those additional units.

A speedometer you can read at a glance, and a head-up display your windshield reflects. NitroHUD shows GPS speed with the accuracy figure printed beside it, mirrors the readout for windshield use at night, logs the trip you are on, and times acceleration runs with your personal bests kept. No ads, no account, and trips stay on the phone.
