SpeedView Alternatives for HUD and Trip Logs
Choose NitroHUD for an ad-free HUD with a choice of gauges and CSV speed samples; consider Ulysse Speedometer Pro if you need an overlay above other apps or KML tracks. SpeedView already offers HUD and GPX export, so switching makes sense only if another app meets a need it leaves open. This comparison covers Android apps. NitroHUD is not affiliated with Code Sector or binarytoys.
Start with the SpeedView edition you use
The baseline here is SpeedView: Legacy Edition. Its Google Play listing was available when checked on November 5, 2026; the Legacy name alone does not mean it has disappeared. The listing describes a mirrored HUD, a recent-speed graph, three road-type warning settings, GPX export, and background operation. Those remain useful reasons to keep it. Its download is free and ad-supported. Before changing apps, identify what you actually want to replace: the display, the handling of location data, or the files you take away after a drive. A different dial alone may not justify changing your trip-recording routine.
NitroHUD: gauges and a free HUD
NitroHUD includes three free gauge themes: Nitro, Digital, and Classic. Digital uses segmented numerals; Classic uses a needle. The full selection contains 15 themes, with the remaining themes and additional dashboard layouts requiring PRO. Mirrored HUD mode is free, so you can assess its readout before choosing a subscription. Use Demo drive while parked to compare the available displays on your own phone. Check the unit label and smaller captions as well as the speed number. NitroHUD’s speed readout can fade during its pulsing overspeed warning, which is a readability limitation to consider when choosing your display and alert settings.
Ulysse Pro: overlays and a trip computer
Ulysse Speedometer Pro’s Google Play description lists analog and digital displays, HUD, overlays, vehicle profiles, a trip computer, background operation, and GPX or KML export. Consider it for speed information alongside another app or KML tracks. NitroHUD has no floating speed overlay or KML export. Ulysse Pro is a one-time paid download; check Google Play for the current price and device compatibility. Its listing shows an August 2021 update, so confirm the functions you need on your Android version before relying on them.
Compare the location disclosures
Code Sector’s privacy policy says SpeedView: Legacy Edition may share precise location and sensor information with Sense360 for North American users, including while the app is closed. Binarytoys’ linked privacy policy allows collection and sharing of location and sensor information, including precise location associated with mobile identifiers. Ulysse Pro’s Google Play Data safety section showed no information available when checked; that does not establish that no data is collected. Read the policy for the exact edition you intend to use. If those practices do not fit your preferences, choose another app or adjust its location permissions, understanding that limiting location access can affect speed and track functions.
What stays on the phone in NitroHUD
NitroHUD stores trip history and settings on the device and does not upload your recorded route as part of its normal recording flow. Exporting is a separate action that opens the phone’s share sheet, where you choose a destination. The app also contacts its configuration service with app version, language, and platform information, and purchases use Google Play. Keeping trip data on the phone therefore does not mean the app never connects to the internet. Treat an exported route as sensitive: choose the recipient deliberately and avoid posting a track that reveals places you want to keep private.
Decide whether recording must continue out of view
NitroHUD is intended for use with the app visible. It has no background location permission or tracking service, so do not choose it for a continuous log while switching to other apps or turning the screen off. This is a meaningful tradeoff if you want navigation on the same phone throughout a drive. Test your intended routine on a short trip before replacing an existing logger: start recording, use the phone as you normally would, then inspect the saved result after stopping. A speed display that looks right while open does not establish that the route remains complete when it is out of view.
Choose the output you actually need
NitroHUD PRO offers two different outputs. CSV contains timestamps, elapsed time, speed in several units, and altitude when available; it does not include latitude and longitude. GPX contains route coordinates, timestamps, and elevation when available. Choose CSV to examine speed samples in a spreadsheet and GPX when you need the recorded path. These are not interchangeable copies of all trip data. Before committing to an app, open a sample export in the program you intend to use and check that it contains the fields you need. Format support alone does not guarantee that every app writes the same information.
Check retention and saving before trusting a log
NitroHUD’s free Trips view exposes the latest saved trip; PRO opens access to the rest of the retained history and enables export. History is capped at 200 trips, and storage pressure can remove older entries sooner. Non-demo trips must reach at least 50 meters and 20 seconds to enter history. A save message can still appear when a trip does not qualify or storage prevents saving, so confirm the entry exists in Trips. Completely exhausted storage can lose a new recording. Export important trips while they are available, keep the resulting files somewhere you control, and do not treat the phone’s history as an unlimited archive.
Make the switch with one representative trip
Write down your requirements before installing a replacement: readable HUD, permission preferences, recording with another app open, the required file format, and payment model. Try a representative short trip, then check the history entry and any export after parking. Keep existing SpeedView files until the replacement workflow is proven. NitroHUD does not import those archives into its Trips screen. Its PRO features use a subscription, with current terms shown in the app and Google Play. If the free HUD meets your needs, there is no need to subscribe just to use it; if background recording is essential, choose an option that supports that requirement.

Frequently asked questions
Is SpeedView still available?
SpeedView: Legacy Edition had an accessible Google Play listing on November 5, 2026. Check availability from your own account and device; an accessible listing does not guarantee installation on every phone.
Can I use NitroHUD’s HUD without PRO?
Yes. HUD mirror mode and the Nitro, Digital, and Classic themes are free. Exporting trip files requires PRO.
Which option should I check for KML files?
Ulysse Speedometer Pro lists KML track export. Test a sample with your destination program before changing your recording routine.
Does NitroHUD CSV export contain my route?
No. It contains speed samples and timing information, with altitude when available. Use GPX for coordinates, and review the file before sharing it.
Will a subscription make NitroHUD record in the background?
No. PRO unlocks additional features but does not add background tracking. Keep that requirement separate from theme, history, and export access.
Can I move my existing SpeedView history into NitroHUD?
NitroHUD has no trip-import option. Preserve your old exports separately and start new recordings in NitroHUD; do not delete the originals expecting an automatic transfer.
A speedometer you can read at a glance, and a head-up display your windshield reflects. NitroHUD shows GPS speed with the accuracy figure printed beside it, mirrors the readout for windshield use at night, logs the trip you are on, and times acceleration runs with your personal bests kept. No ads, no account, and trips stay on the phone.
